Lachlan Mitchell, aka Laneous, is a Brisbane-born guitarist, vocalist, composer and visual artist whose singular approach has made him a fixture of Australia’s underground soul and jazz scenes since emerging from West End in 2008. Championed early by Gilles Peterson and described by Hiatus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm as “a genius,” his work has spanned cult projects including Laneous & The Family Yah, Kooii and Vulture Street Tape Gang, alongside collaborations with some of Australia’s most adventurous musicians. His acclaimed debut album LANEOUS earned international airplay and a nomination for Soul Album of the Year at the 2019 Music Victoria Awards. In quartet form, Laneous brings his distinctive songwriting and improvisational language into a dynamic ensemble setting, moving freely between soul, jazz, psychedelia and the unexpected.
