Ekow Alabi Savage is a vocalist, composer, percussionist, master of many rhythms, and
one of the foremost living interpreters African rhythm at the drum set.
Born in Ghana in the city Cape Coast, he
began playing drums at the tender age of five.
At the age of 14 he founded a school band
called “ANABO"; this later became the band
Roots Anabo, which called its style ‘sunlife
music’, toured most of the famous music
festivals during the European summers. In
1984 they performed at the Sunsplash Festival
in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and recorded their
album ‘Civilization’ at Tuff Gong Studios in
Kingston.
